Fork, agate haft, English, c.1720-50

Of small size, for use with game, this cannon-shape fork has a haft of ridged agate, a silver scalloped ferrule, and two tines on a steel baluster stem. The agate colouring is attractive, with orange and grey hues.

Provenance: An English Private Collection.

Condition: Good - only a couple of tiny abbrasions to the agate, and some unevenness in one area, possibly the result of polishing out earlier chips. The silver ferrule is fine and decorative, the steel with only light tarnishing. The tines are sharp. A good, usable piece.

Dimensions: Length (including tines) 18.4 cm

Cutlery: From Gothic to Art Deco - The J. Hollander Collection, Jan van Trigt (Petraco-Pandora NV, 1999).
