Rare tin-glazed Tile, Aldgate Pothouse, London, c.1600-40

 

Made at the Aldgate Pothouse, this rare London tile is painted with a standing goat in blue, ochre, yellow and green, within concentric circles. The corners are decorated with three narrow leaf motifs reserved on a blue ground.

Provenance: With Jonathan Horne, London; Syd Levethan, The Longridge Collection; an English Private Collection.

Condition: There is some surface wear to the front and also to the edges. There is a 2 cm x 2.5 cm flat, triangular chip on the reverse of the bottom right hand corner. No other damage or restoration.
