Tea Bowl and Saucer, Lowestoft, soft paste porcelain, c.1775-80

This Lowestoft tea bowl and saucer are painted in underglaze blue with an oriental-inspired scene consisting of a tall pagoda beside a river. A willow tree with crossed branches stands at the water's edge, and a building can be glimpsed on a distant island. The interior of the tea bowl is decorated with a small sprig. The border is painted with alternate bands of tight scrolls and shaded triangles.

Unmarked.

Condition: Good - no cracks or restoration, just typical stilt marks to the rim of the saucer, and minor glaze faults and blemishes to the tea bowl.

Dimensions: Saucer - Diameter 12.9 cm
