Coffee Cup and Saucer, First Period Worcester, soft paste porcelain, c.1770


This neatly potted Worcester coffee cup and saucer are precisely painted in underglaze blue with the desirable Waiting Chinaman pattern, composed of a robed oriental figure standing beside a garden fence. The inner border is painted with scattered floral sprays, and the rim is finished with a dot and loop border.

Caughley also produced a very similar version of this design, in around 1775.

Painted open crescent mark.

Condition: Good - no chips, cracks or restoration.
