A Bow Coffee Cup, circa 1752
This early Bow coffee cup is painted in famille rose colours with chrysanthemums and bamboo issuing from holed rocks.
Appreciated by scholars for their aesthetic qualities, asymmetrical rocks and stones are a traditional feature of Chinese paintings and gardens, often representing a landscape in miniature form. Chrysanthemums and bamboo symbolise longevity.
Incised X mark.
Condition: Excellent – no damage or restoration, and with very little wear to the enamel decoration.
Dimensions: Height 6 cm
