A large pearlware lustre pottery Jug, English, circa 1820-30

This large pearlware pottery jug is decorated with copper and pink splash lustre. The bulbous copper lustre body is adorned with moulded sprigs depicting three baskets overflowing with flowers and foliage. These are highlighted in brightly coloured enamels. The copper lustre neck is painted with stylised flowers. The spreading foot is decorated with pink splash lustre, giving a marbled effect, and pink lustre is used to define the spout, rim and handle. The latter is moulded and decorated with a foliate design.

The base is marked with a B or 13 in green enamel.

Condition: No cracks or restoration, just one or two tiny blemishes to the base. There is typical minor crazing to the pearl glaze, and expected light wear from use. From manufacture, there is a bristle-width stray line of lustre inside the spout.

Dimensions: Height 16 cm
