A rare Liverpool Creamboat, circa 1770-75
This creamboat was probably made by either James or John Pennington during the early 1770s. The body is neatly potted and the handle has a distinctive kick out at the lower terminal, with gadroon moulding around the base, the whole shape and design emulating silverware creamboats of the period.
The European flower bouquet and flower sprays imitate the floral patterns found on Meissen porcelain.
Unmarked.
Condition: Excellent – no chips, cracks or restoration. There are some typical minor impurities in the paste, and a few small clay tears, as well as a patch of pooled glaze on the the otherwise wiped base, all of which occurred during manufacture. The enamel decoration is good, with very little wear.
