A Staffordshire Bust of William Shakespeare, late 19th century

This Staffordshire earthenware bust of William Shakespeare is typically modelled draped with a cloak and enriched with colours. The socle base is decorated with a faux marble design. There is a vent hole to the underside.

Condition: The bust displays very well indeed, however there is a crack through the join with the socle base. This is not a complete break as the crack does not extend all of the way around the bust, and it is partly disguised by the faux marble design. There is also a hairline to the underside of the base and the back of the bust. A chip to the underside of the cloak has been retouched, along with three small chips to the socle and a few minor flakes to the enamel.

Dimensions: Height 22.5 cm; Width (across the shoulders) 16 cm; Depth (across the base) 9.2 cm
