A Mason’s Patent Ironstone Vase, Staffordshire, circa 1813-20
This Mason’s vase is of an oviform urn shape with two moulded handles. It is richly decorated in the Japan Fence pattern consisting of underglaze blue, iron-red enamel and gilding. This style of Imari decoration reflects the taste for oriental design popular in Regency Britain between the years 1811-20.
Unmarked, as is typical for this form with a concave foot.
Condition: No damage or restoration. The decoration is very attractive with only light wear in places, consistent with the age of this piece. From manufacture, there are two small ‘dimples’ on the edge of the foot rim. These are fully glazed and were subsequently decorated. The decoration to one of the handles ran slightly during production.
Dimensions: Height 11.3 cm; Width (across the handles) 13.2 cm
