A blue aventurine glass Knife and Fork, English, circa 1720-50
Made of Venetian blue aventurine glass, the hafts of this exquisite dessert knife and fork are of faceted pistol form. Fitted with silver-gilt, blade, tines and ferrules, the latter engraved.
The glass was almost certainly imported from Murano in blocks and re-melted and formed in England.
Provenance: An English Private Collection.
Condition: Good – just a few small nibbles and flat abrasions to the faceted hafts. The silver-gilt fittings and ferrules are good, and the blades are sharp, making a really usable set.
Dimensions: Knife length 21.5 cm (including blade); Fork length (including tines) 18 cm
Cutlery: From Gothic to Art Deco – The J. Hollander Collection, Jan van Trigt (Petraco-Pandora NV, 1999).
