A Child’s Alphabet Mug, pearlware, English, circa 1830
This charming pearlware child’s mug is printed in green with a gardener surrounded by beautiful grounds filled with trees and plants. He leans jauntily with his spade beside a wheelbarrow filled with potted plants, and gestures to a hot house. Around the rim is an alphabet rhyme: G was a Gardener who works many hours. H was a Hot-house to hold his choice flowers; and to the interior: A was an ass so stupid & dull. B was a bee with her honey bag full.
The spreading base was designed to aid stability.
Condition: Minor flaws to the rim. No restoration.
Dimensions: Height 6.7 cm
