An English delftware Plate, Liverpool, circa 1750
This attractive English delftware plate is decorated in the manner of Chinese blue and white porcelain. The centre is painted in blue with trailing flowers, the border with winged insects, floral sprigs and leafy sprays. The reddish-brown rim is also in imitation of Chinese porcelain.
Small spur or peg marks can be seen on the reverse, indicating how such wares were stacked and fired in the kiln.
Condition: Typical losses and tiny chips to the fragile tin glaze around the edge, and a faint hairline from the rim to the cavetto. No restoration.
Dimensions: Diameter 21.6 cm
