A Lowestoft Tea Canister, circa 1775
This Lowestoft tea canister of rectangular section and rounded shoulders, is printed in underglaze blue with the popular Three Flowers pattern.
Unmarked.
The success of this pattern ensured that factories such as Lowestoft, Caughley and Isleworth would produce their own versions, usually with a crescent mark in imitation of its Worcester origin.
Condition: Excellent – no damage or restoration. There is some light wear to the corners of the base. Typical minor potting, glazing and firing anomalies characteristic of Lowestoft porcelain. As with most 18th-century tea-caddies, the cover is now lacking.
