A Miniature porcelain Mug, probably Coalport, circa 1820

This ‘toy’ or miniature porcelain mug is finely decorated by hand with a colourful enamel bouquet of flowers, reserved on a mazarine blue ground ornamented with rich gilding. The gilded high loop handle is of a so-called ‘hoof and horsetail’ form used at Rockingham, although the decoration of the mug is very much in the manner of Coalport.

Unmarked.

Condition: No damage or restoration, just some minor wear to the gilt decoration. From manufacture, there is a speck of grit in the paste to the interior base. The minute crazing to the pooled glaze on the base is often seen with Coalport glazes.

Dimensions: Height (to top of rim) 3.5 cm
