A porcelain Scent Flask, probably Coalport, Shropshire, circa 1830

This charming porcelain scent flask is coloured a pale lavender and encrusted with applied flower decoration, including two large bouquets containing roses, and two smaller sprays. The petals, stems, leaves and buds are all individually modelled and enamelled by hand. The foot, neck and opening are picked out with a gilt band.

Items such as this were expensive to manufacture and particularly favoured during the English Rococo Revival of the second-quarter of the 19th-century.

Condition: The stopper is lacking and there is some light wear to the gilt decoration at the opening. Due to the fragile nature of the applied decoration there are expected losses to the petals and leaves. No restoration and no cracks.

Dimensions: Height 7.6 cm
