A Rococo Revival Creamer, attributed to Harris & Goodwin, Staffordshire, bone china, circa 1836

With its ribbed and fluted body, scalloped rim, exaggerated pouring lip and complex scrolled handle, this bone china jug or creamer is firmly a product of the English Rococo Revival period. The swollen belly of the creamer is simply painted with swags of colourful flower heads and feathery scrolls in pink, purple, green, blue and yellow enamels. The interior of the pouring lip is also painted with a colourful spray of flowers, and the moulded handle is picked out with purple enamel.

Unmarked.

Berthoud illustrates two creamers of this form, both attributed to Harris & Goodwin (p.165, plates 985 and 986).

Dimensions: Height (to top of handle) 12.5 cm.

Condition: No damage or restoration, just very minor wear to the decoration. From manufacture, there are firing cracks and clay tears to the porcelain, and tiny pinholes to the glaze.

A Cabinet of British Creamers, Michael Berthoud (Micawber Publications, 1999).
