A Liverpool tin-glazed Tile decorated with a signed Sadler print, circa 1758-61

This John Sadler (1720-89) tin-glazed tile is printed in greenish black with a French rococo scene depicting a lady with a guitar and Cupid with a torch, within a rococo border.

Signed within the border J. Sadler Liverpool.

Provenance: E. Norman Stretton Collection, and S.J. McManus Collection. Norman Stretton had a very fine collection of rare and interesting early examples of printed ceramics, both pottery and porcelain.

Condition: Good – no restoration, just slightly trimmed around the edges, and very minor surface wear. I have not examined the tile beneath the black paper on the reverse.

Dimensions: 12.7 cm across
