A small salt-glazed stoneware Jelly Mould, English, 19th century
This small salt-glazed stoneware jelly mould is of a delightfully diminutive scale. The oval interior is modelled as a melon. The brown glaze is of various warm shades, and the unglazed base is impressed with the numeral 4.
In addition to being a wonderfully usable item, it looks great as a display of antique kitchenalia.
Condition: Good – no cracks or restoration, just a pinhead frit to the rim. From manufacture, the jug has a slight lean from sagging in the kiln. There are expected impurities and minor anomalies to the potting, glazing and firing, such as small pieces of grit and glaze crawl.
Dimensions: Height 4.5 to 5 cm; Width 7.9 cm; Length 10.1 cm
