A Staffordshire porcelaneous model of a Dalmatian, circa 1860
This handsome Staffordshire Dalmatian is modelled with separate front legs, seated on an oval cobalt blue gilt lined base. He wears a moulded gilt collar with a padlock and chain.
Dimensions: Height 12.5 cm; Length (along base) 8.5 cm; Width (across base) 5.9 cm.
Condition: There is a very faint hairline just above the front left paw, which is entirely secure. No other damage, and no restoration or overpainting. There is wear to the dog’s muzzle, the black dot Dalmatian markings, the gilt collar, padlock and chain, and the gilt line at the front of the base. From manufacture, there is some glaze misfiring to the cobalt blue base, minor potting flaws and tiny clay tears, and also areas where the glaze did not adhere prior to firing.
