A Worcester fluted Saucer, decorated in the Giles studio, circa 1770

This Worcester saucer is painted with a floral bouquet and scattered sprays and sprigs in green camaïeu. The fluted rim is decorated with a gilt line. Aside from the underglaze blue mark, the enamel and gilt decoration was undertaken at the London studio of James Giles. Typical of Giles is the loose arrangement of the bouquet and scattered sprays and sprigs, and the use of a rose and auricula, recurring elements of Giles flower painting.

Blue square seal mark.

Condition: No chips, cracks or restoration. There is light surface wear from use, and minute frits to areas of the gilt line decoration on the fluted rim. From manufacture, there is a glazed clay tear to the side of the foot rim.

Dimensions: Diameter 14 cm
