A Worcester Coffee Cup, circa 1765

Depicting two women and a child between a tree in blossom and two garden seats, the pattern on this neatly potted cup with its fine grooved handle and everted rim represents an early expression of the Mandarin style. The inside rim is painted with a line and loop border in red.

Collector’s old inventory label.

It is interesting to compare the treatment of this pattern with that of the slightly later Liverpool example here.
